Students from the Fulltime Bilingual Program of Couto Magalhães School participated in the workshop ‘the importance of the ludic in the second language acquisition’. During a whole week the 120 students of the program had special classes with ludic and dynamic activities focused on the second language internalization in a light, intuitive and interesting way.

The teachers responsible for the activities were the teacher of the Language Center of UniEVANGÉLICA, who prepared the activities in the rotations system so that the students could live English through many different ways of games and plays. The Bilingual Couto Coordinator, prof. Igor Gomides, highlights the importance of this week for the students and teachers. the use of ludic activities is something we already work with the regular teacher, but these new experiences that the other teachers bring to the classroom is a unique opportunity.

The students were also very excited about the workshop. The student Yasmin Neves Fernandes, of the 2nd grade really enjoyed the activities. “The teacher helped us, it was different from what we usually do”. We played games, watched movies and series and that helps us learn English”, said the student. Murilo Yasuda Campos, of the 7th grade said he thought the week was very interesting. “The activities were different and we had a lot of fun and got involved with English. It’s much easier to learn English this way”, Murilo said.

The teachers involved in the activity emphasized the importance of this experience for the students. Andrea Herterich said that during the week the students learned without realizing they were learning. “It’s a new situation; they are very smart and adapted really quick”, she said. Gracielly Teixeira, a regular teacher of the Bilingual Program said that this kind of activity takes the student out of their comfort zone. “The student feels challenged to continue in the bilingual environment and see how far they are able to communicate with the teacher”, she commented.

International Week

The workshop ‘the importance of the ludic in the second language acquisition’ was part of the Second International Education Week, promoted by the International Affairs Center. Prof. Marisa Espíndola, International Academic Coordinator, explained that bringing the International Week to the young students of the Bilingual Couto is part of a strategy to create a new environment inside an international purpose. “We are working intensively in the issue of second language acquisition so we can move forward in this internationalization process and by using the ludic as a tool, the students learn and don’t realize they are learning, she said.
