About the Program

The Biology program aims to train competent professionals, enabling them to develop reflective, critical and ethical activities related to the Biological Sciences, proposing solutions, respecting life and helping in the construction of knowledge.

The Bachelor in Biological Sciences will have enough knowledge to enable him to understand that life has been organized through time, under the action of evolutionary processes, resulting in a diversity of forms on which the selective pressures continue to operate.

Job Market

The graduate of the program will be present in society as a citizen and researcher, using his scientific knowledge to act in environment and biodiversity, health, biotechnology and production. The performance can occur in different activities, such as: analysis in industrial, clinical and scientific research laboratories for diagnostic and surveillance purposes; Coordination of studies of environmental impacts and proposition of activities mitigating these impacts; Supervision of activities that endanger public health or the environment, as well as the issuance of reports and opinions; Conduct of investigation of illicit activities; Supervision and management of terrestrial and aquatic biodiversity conservation units; Proposing, coordinating and executing research projects in research institutes and universities; Occupancy of technical and administrative positions at different levels; Environmental management in companies as in the treatment, deposition and recycling of different types of waste; Acting as technical responsible for laboratories and / or departments of different public and private institutions; Analysis, bioassays and tests in animals, in human milk bank, organ and tissue bank, and in semen, ova and embryo banks.

Differential Advantages

The University Center of Anápolis – UniEVANGÉLICA currently has multidisciplinary and specific laboratories in the area of Biological Sciences: Laboratory of microscopy, microbiology, chemistry, vivarium, serpentary, multidisciplinary laboratory of biodiversity. In addition, it counts on the experimental Campus where the practical activities and field researches in the studies of Ecology, Botany and Zoology are developed. It has the Educational Ecological Trail with the development of activities in Environmental Education as well as with the Junior Environmental Firm.

Curriculum

Final Paper

The final paper addresses an area of knowledge chosen by the student and is conducted under the guidance of a faculty professor at the institution. This activity aims to develop in the student the ability to write projects and develop scientific research according to pre-established standards. The student’s follow-up in the preparation of the project and the writing of the final paper will be carried out under the guidance of a professor of the faculty in the last year of the program (6th and 7th terms) through the disciplines Final Paper I and II.

Final papers may be done in the form of: Monograph, Scientific Article (according to ANPAD regulations) and a Business Plan.

Internship

The supervised internships consist of pre-professional practice activities, performed in simulated and real situations. For each student it is compulsory to reach the total studyload of the internship provided in the curriculum of the program. The internship will be coordinated and supervised by a supervisor designated by the program director in the different areas of activity of the biologist.

Extension Activities

Extension, understood as one of the basic functions of the university, is characterized by its systematic interaction with the community, aiming to contribute to its development and in it to seek knowledge and experiences for the evaluation and revitalization of teaching and research.

Extension activities are considered to be any type of conduct involving: programs, projects, events, courses, services, production and publications; Related to the thematic areas held in the name of the University Center of Anápolis, inside or outside the Institution. These activities may or may not be included in the teaching plans.

Research

The research is thought as an integral part of the institutional policies of the University Center of Anápolis – UniEVANGÉLICA. Thus, the Biology Program participates in the research incentive programs – such as PIBID, in which students execute their research projects with scientific initiation grants in the PIBIC / UNIE and PIBIC / CNPq modalities, as well as encouraging and supporting the Academic studies in the production of their Final Papers and stimulating them to follow the academic career (specializations in the different fields of the biologist, master’s and Ph.D).

Extracurricular Activities

It is necessary to ensure that school curricula, especially those at the higher level, include dimensions of human culture that, while valuing the cognitive, rational and logical development of school subjects, give space for other aspects of formation, such as the arts, work of extension, scientific initiation, etc. It also includes the different languages of human culture, such as art in its various aesthetic and literary manifestations, etc. It covers scientific production, ideas, conceptions, images and technology. Therefore, theoretical-practical activities of deepening in specific areas of student interest, through scientific initiation, extension, monitoring and extracurricular activities, are included in the program’s pedagogical project.
